Effects:
Wild Lettuce is used for its soothing and relaxing effects. The effects are similar to opium, but without the side-effects. It is a valuable remedy for use in insomnia, restlessness and excitability (especially in children) and other manifestations of an over active nervous system. As an anti-spasmodic it can be used as part of a holistic treatment of whooping cough and dry irritated coughs in general. It will relieve colic pains in the intestines and uterus and so may be used in dysmennhorea. It will ease muscular pains related to rheumatism. It has also been used as an aphrodisiac.
Usage:
Wild Lettuce can be drunk as tea: pour a cup of boiling water onto 1-2 teaspoons and steep for 10-15 minutes. Drink three times daily. For irritable coughs it may be combined with Wild cherry bark. For insomnia it combines with valerian (Valeriana officinalis) and pasque flower (Euphorbia pulcherrima).
Warnings:
Be careful with the dosage; tests have revealed that on small animals even small overdoses can be (very) poisonous.
