Apart from its majestic beauty, the Pink Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera, formerly known as Nymphaea nelumbo) is held sacred because of the mystical effects it can produce. The Sacred Lotus contains lotusine, demethyl coclaurine, neferin, and nuciferine. This species is intimately linked with the Buddhist religion, symbolizing forgetfullness, vitality and purity. Lotus flowers, pods, or petals are most commonly used, while the flower stamens are reported to be the most potent part of the plant. Effects
The effects of pink lotus are both sedative and euphoric. According to some it is a very effective sleeping aid. Usage
To make tea, take 5 grams per person and soak in hot water. For a traditional Egyptian drink, soak the flowers in wine for several hours. Use approximately 5 grams per bottle. Do not exceed recommended dosage: pink lotus makes the wine bitter and hard to drink.
